Brazil Takes World Stage with China as Partner

BRAZIL TAKES WORLD STAGE. At one time people feared that the Western nations would solidify a new world order. The future Antichrist could use that order to prop up his empire. Now a different world order has emerged, called BRICS—for Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. And it is already challenging the global dominance of the West.

Brazil’s President Lula da Silva recently signed more than 20 new bilateral agreements in a visit to China. Both nations serve as cornerstone members of BRICS. BRICS nations favor displacing the US dollar as the foremost trade and global reserve currency. Presently about half of all global trade involves the US dollar. The greenback also makes up 60% of all foreign currency reserves.

Already Lula was signaling a move from the West when he welcomed Iranian warships on February 26. A month later, he announced that Brazil would start trading with the Chinese yuan instead of the US dollar. Chinese President Xi said China and Brazil the two biggest “emerging markets” in the world.

The BRICS bloc grows richer and more authoritarian

Moreover, Lula has voiced support for Latin authoritarian regimes like Venezuela, Nicaragua and Cuba.

Last week, Lula welcomed Russia’s foreign minister and affirmed his refusal to provide weapons to Ukraine. He said that a group of nations including Brazil and China should mediate a peaceful end to that war.

Also, Lula supports the China-backed New Development Bank which promotes the yuan in the Americas. He oversaw the inauguration of the new head of the NDB, former Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff. Even though Brazil’s National Congress impeached Rousseff for budget mismanagement in 2016.

Allegedly China has worked with drug cartels in trafficking fentanyl across Latin America and to the US. Security analyst Irina Tsukerman says Brazil will “become a central point for strong networks” of this trade. We must pray that neither the BRICS bloc nor the Western bloc serve as an Antichrist platform.
