ABOMINATIONS BRINGING DESOLATION. “…on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate” (Dan. 9:27).
The word “wing” in this context means the power which lifts up. The evil spiritual power of abominations will lift up “one who makes desolate”—that is, the Antichrist.
Before he reaches the peak of his power, the Antichrist will suffer a “fatal wound” (Rev. 13:3). But the power of Satan and his abominations will lift him back up. They will give the Antichrist new life, by which he takes authority over the whole earth (verses 3-4).
We see here that “abominations” is plural. The Bible names sodomy (Lev. 18:22) as only one of several abominations. Abominations go beyond sin. Because God considers sins as offensive, but abominations as repulsive. Other abominations include idolatry (Dt. 7:25-26) and wearing clothes of the opposite sex (Dt. 22:5). Also, among things,
“Haughty eyes, a lying tongue,
And hands that shed innocent blood.
A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that run rapidly to evil.
A false witness who utters lies,
And one who spreads strife among brothers” (Prov. 6:17-19).
The man of lawlessness
The Antichrist does all these things. In fact, the Bible calls him “the man of lawlessness” (2 Thess. 2:3). Because he breaks all of God’s laws. Furthermore, he commits all kinds of sins and abominations, including homosexuality. “He will show no regard for the gods of his fathers or for the desire of women” (Dan 11:37).
How does homosexuality “make desolate” (Dan. 9:27)? Desolate means to be “appalled” and “devastated” (Vine’s Expository Dictionary}. “Appalled” means a continual state of shock. Moreover, “devastated” means to be ruined.
How would you like to live in a continual state of shock and ruin? Contacts with heterosexuals often remind you that your own sexuality is ruined. At times you repel them, because homosexuality as an abomination is repulsive. You may try to be like heterosexuals. But if you can’t, you try to resign yourself to your condition.
Or you try to make others accept your condition as normal. That’s what much recent legislation tries to do. Also including Belize’s “Equal Opportunities Bill”….
