Rubio’s Munich Speech “the Greatest of All Time?”

Rubio’s Munich Speech

RUBIO’S MUNICH SPEECH. The Morning Meeting on 2Way asked: did Marco Rubio Give ‘the Greatest Speech of All Time”? Apparently many MAGA spokespeople think so. But even the mostly EU crowd at the Munich Security Conference gave Rubio a rare standing ovation.

Yet his speech agreed with the controversial J.D. Vance speech there a year ago which criticized the EU. Vance argued that Europe’s commitment to free speech and democracy were eroding. Especially in its frequent exclusion of rightist parties and inclusion of immigrants lacking democratic values. How can the free world prevail over the unfree world when its own citizens are losing their freedoms.

Rubio made the same points, but with an appeal to work with the US in restoring those Western values. These shared values overcame the unfree world in WW2, Cuban missile crisis and fall of communism. But then people thought those values would spread through globalism in a world without borders.

West weakened when we outsourced industries and jobs overseas, and produced welfare states. We let in “mass migration that threatens the cohesion of our societies.” But unfree countries instead “invested in the most rapid military buildup in all of human history.”

Now the US is restoring the values of freedom and national sovereignty that it had learned from Europe. Values that it holds so dear that it is also building enough of a military to defend them. “And while we are prepared, if necessary, to do this alone…it is our hope to do this together with you.”

Because we share not only these values, but the “history, Christian faith, culture, heritage… and the sacrifices” that produced these values. And we share a future that “will always be intertwined with yours.”

See below how to pray about this

We need updated industries and militaries to keep building and protecting our great civilization. If we don’t, we will depend on nations which will work against it. America worked mostly alone for terms of peace to end the suffering in Gaza, Ukraine and Iran.

But “we do not want our allies to be weak because that makes us weaker… We in America have no interest in being polite and orderly caretakers of the West’s managed decline.” We must revitalize our shared international organizations to counter threats against our shared values.

Rubio linked the 20th and 21st centuries in this way”: “Together, we rebuilt a shattered continent in the wake of two devastating world wars. When we found ourselves divided once again by the Iron Curtain, the free West linked arms with the courageous dissidents struggling against tyranny in the east to defeat Soviet communism. We have fought against each other. Then reconciled, then fought, then reconciled again.

“Now America is charting the path for a new century of prosperity. And once again we want to do it together with you, our cherished allies and our oldest friends… With a Europe that is proud of its heritage and of its history.”

Don’t you miss the Europe we once knew? I do. The Sermon on the Mount, 2 Chronicles 6-7 and many other biblical speeches will always exceed Rubio’s. But it may end up as one of the great speeches of this century if it comes true. So let’s pray that this great speech turns into great actions together with Europe.

Learning from the mistakes of our past, we can both become greater than before. We need to—especially the Christians of our nations. Because as the end times draw near, we will face greater enemies.

PRAY WITH US about Rubio’s Munich speech:

Father God, we declare You as King of kings and Lord of all the lords on earth. But since WWI many Western nations once based on Christian principles have turned against You. They started a League of Nations, then a United Nations which no longer makes peace but makes nations woke. Last year many of the EU nations raged against J.D. Vance when he chided them for losing rights that You gave.

But we thank You in this new year that they have an ear to hear this course correction. Toward honoring their fathers who fought for and made the free world possible. Toward honoring their Christian heritage that produced the greatest civlization ever. But also toward repenting for the sins of their fathers and themselves. So make this a true turning point toward an even greater civilization, in which the gospel freely shared thrives. And against the antichrist forces which want to end Your good work in us before You complete it. For with You we will overcome any false world made in the devil’s image against Yours. In Jesus’ name, amen.
