Marijuana Republic—Is This the Future of Belize?

marijuana republic

MARIJUANA REPUBLIC. Now for a change, we’re going to post from another source a major statement on drug abuse. For it concerns a bill for government legalization and regulation of marijuana. Here below see a stark assessment by Father John Robinson, Mount Carmel Parish, Belize:

If Belize became a Marijuana Republic:

  • Family tourism would decrease.  Because the kind of respectful tourists that we want to attract will find other destinations.
  • Also, the black market will grow.  And other drugs will become more available.
  • Increased deaths will occur due to accidents, depression, suicide.
  • Moreover, government production and sale of drugs would give the impression to adolescents that drugs are not harmful.
  • Government production of drugs would increase adolescent access to marijuana.
  • Government production of drugs would mean more parents and care-givers would become high more of the time. And drug-impaired parenting is bad parenting.
  • Cognitive damage would result. Also, lower IQ in users who start young.
  • Because THC in marijuana attaches to receptors in the brain that modulate systems ordinarily involved in healthy behaviours like eating, learning, and forming relationships. And THC — which has been increasing in potency in recent years – throws this finely tuned system off balance.
  • Marijuana is used to escape from life. Specifically, it tends to kill initiative, diligence and creativity. Also
  • An industry that benefits from the chemical addiction of the citizens of Belize and exists to distort their minds will not remain incorrupt for long. And it could even end up becoming infiltrated with those disposed to turn to violence to defend their profits.
  • Ultimately, there would be a contradiction between God’s law and man’s law.

Plus further damage:

  • Lower moral standards.
  • And increased family and street violence and homelessness.
  • Health complications among users.
  • And increased addiction.
  • Psychosocial impairment.
  • Plus More high school dropouts.
  • And more work place accidents, injuries, absenteeism, and disciplinary problems.

And these are not guesses. Because this societal decline has happened in places where ganja has been legalized in the last 15 years.

So don’t tarnish the jewel. Finally, let’s stop Belize from becoming a Marijuana Republic!
