AI Bill of Rights— Safeguard Against AI Tyranny?

AI bill of rights

AI BILL OF Rights. Can a digital bill of rights offer protection from the dangers of AI and open us up to its many advantages? Commentator and psychologist Jordan Peterson thinks so. If we can protect the privacy of personal data, each can explore what AI offers without fear.

So much of what you learn, you forget. But if you feed what you learn into an AI “reasoning machine,” it won’t forget. It can learn about your creativity and suggest new ways of combining what you have learned. It can explore what great artists and thinkers have made public in the past. And it can come up with new combinations and deductions from their thoughts.

Peterson and fellow AI pioneer Brian Roemmele thinks this can spur a new renaissance in the humanities. But even in STEM subjects, AI may help to come up with new hypotheses. And to test them.

But without a digital bill of rights, governments and big firms can use AI against citizens and customers. They can corrupt AI with woke or other ideological dogmas. Instead of promoting creativity and exploration, they can force conformity. They can limit your access to knowledge and limit knowledge itself. And they can try to remake your inner and outer worlds in their own image.

The AI new frontier

Thank God, Elon Musk and AI pioneers like Peterson and Roemmele are sounding the alarm. And just in time, before AI technology gets out of our control and into the hands of tyrants. Pray that such pioneers will agree on the right doors to open to AI, and the right doors to close.

We can compare this new frontier to the organization of traffic in the early 1900s. The invention of cars required different roads and new traffic laws. But can we ensure that all have equal rights of access? Pray that we will learn to traffic in AI with the maximum safety and freedom.

A future article will consider the dangers of making our intelligence too artificial.
