SAMARITAN’S PURSE AIDS QUAKE SURVIVORS. After 7.5 and 7.2 quakes killed 1000s, survivors got visits from Samaritan’s Purse disaster relief experts. Led by Franklin Graham, the late evangelist Billy Graham’s son, SP built an emergency hospital in La Guaira. Since it opened June 30, it has helped 2,500 people and already has two operating rooms and 60 beds.
SP’s rapid deployment of resources in one month serves as an amazing model for other relief efforts. Two of its desalination units have provided more than 154,000 liters of clean drinking water. With 767 airlifts, SP has brought 295+ tons of supplies to Venezuelans.
It has distributed supplies to more than 10,000 families. Including family tents, blankets, cooking sets, solar lights, tarps and hygiene kits. Plus Spanish Bibles.

One man fell six floors during the quake in his apartment complex and got buried under rubble. Two days later rescuers found him and brought him to the SP hospital in La Guaira.
“Painful, painful, painful. I lose everything,” he said. “I don’t have anything. A nurse here made me paper shoes; I feel so happy for that. The doctors pray with me. That’s beautiful when they get on their knees and pray with me. I love that. Nobody do that for me.” Chaplains on a Rapid Response Team also serve with SP to minister to spiritual and emotional needs.
SP also installed four clinic modules to reach other areas with surgical equipment and medical supplies. Pray for grace upon grace for survivors and more missions like SP to turn disaster victims into disciples.
PRAY WITH US about Samaritan’s Purse aids quake survivors, that God will:
- Shine His light on rapid relief missions instead of just ruins after disasters as the mass media does. Broadcast testimonies of good news instead of just bad news from him who steals, kills and destroys. So that men may see these good works and glorify the Father in heaven.
- Follow up rescue with relief, relief with recovery, and recovery with revival. Then revival with reformation. Turn decisions for Christ into disciples who make disciples of all nations. And then change those nations by turning multitudes to the Desire of the nations, Jesus Christ.
- Raise up another great relief organization for rapid response to political disasters like Haiti. Give them insights in prayer, timing for intervention, divine appointments with nation-changers. And great grace like Nehemiah had to turn powerful local persecutors into spectators. To witness God’s people turning ruins into restored cities. In Jesus’ name, amen.
