QUAKE FILLS STREETS. After a 7.4 Richter scale quake shook west Colombia, 100s died and many 1,000s were homeless. Within a week, Samaritan’s Purse (SP) had airlifted 100,000 pounds of relief materials. Including 3,000 hygiene kits, 3,000 solar lights, and 1,200 rolls of emergency tarp for shelter. Because the earthquake destroyed 1000’s of homes. And many are sleeping in the streets for fear that aftershocks may bring more buildings down.

Already SP had three field offices in three different areas of Colombia. Almost every building has suffered damage or destruction in some localities, SP’s Franklin Graham said. “Our hearts break for these people whose lives have literally been turned upside down,” he added. “As we bring help in Jesus’ Name, we want them to know that God loves them and cares for them.”
Unto, another Christian humanitarian organization, is also mobilizing to help. Its president, Al Goff, is taking a long-range view of Colombia’s prospects. Because it sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where most of the world’s earthquakes originate. And aftershocks may still occur. So he is preparing for the focus to shift to infrastructure repair and rebuilding homes stronger.
What do Colombians need most now? “This is a God-sized problem that’s in front of them,” Goff said. “So getting people praying for them is job one.”

- Move His people to keep bringing His supplies that He has given them, for His glory to Colombia. Bridge the breaches and speed the supplies to where they are most needed. And make divine appointments with victims so they know that not just men but God has come to them.
- Show victims how to recover and restore homes and family life and jobs God’s way. Fill in the gaps to rebuild infrastructure and shattered communities. And knock on doors of people who do not yet know Jesus, that they may sup with Him and He with them.
- Help aid workers already at the epicenter in Choco who were supporting the peace accord with armed rebels there. Prevent further violence and show them how to add rebuilding to their peacemaking efforts. And help local Christians and churches overcome further efforts to divide them.
