MILLENNIAL JUDGES PREPARE WAY FOR LAST JUDGMENT. “We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ” (2 Cor. 5:10). How will Christ judge you, or me? The answer to that question determines the quality of our lives in eternity.
The answer depends in a large part on how we judged others. “Do not judge so that you will not be judged” (Mt 7:1). How we judge others is important to Christ. Because He not only wants us to rule others with Him in His kingdom. He also wants us to judge others with Him in His judgment.
1 Corinthians 3:13-15 speaks of the judgment day of Christ: “each man’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man’s work. If any man’s work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward. If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as thru fire.”
The quality of our glorified bodies will depend on “the quality of each man’s work.” For it will be tested by holy fire. If any believer’s works don’t pass the test, he will be saved. But his body will have a lesser glory than those who receive rewards. Just as star differs from star in glory (1 Cor. 15:41), so our glorified bodies will differ in glory.
But the nations will be also seeking His judgments. “For the law will go forth from Zion and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. And He will judge between the nations, and will render decisions for many peoples” (Isa 2:3-4).
Judgment in the world and in the church
Some of those decisions Christ will render through us as co-judges. For those nations who do not go to Zion for judgments, He will send His judges to them.
There, His kings will delegate authority to non-glorified believers. And so they will need judges. Because no matter well they qualify themselves, they will still be able to sin. These judges will serve as a kind of checks and balances on their government.
Jesus will not tolerate injustice in His kingdom. “For when the earth experiences Your judgments, the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness” (Isa. 26:9). Jesus will want His judgments to teach everyone righteousness during the Millennium, so they will be qualified at the Last Judgment to receive rewards and not condemnation.
His judges will judge not only crimes in the world, but sins in the church. In fact, we must learn to judge church members rightly before we judge the world.
Certainly, we must not trust justice in the church to courts of unbelievers. “Does any one of you, when he has a case against his neighbor, dare to go to law before the unrighteous and not before the saints?
Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? If the world is judged by you, are you not competent to constitute the smallest law courts?…I say this to your shame” (1 Cor. 6:1-5).
