MILLENNIAL NEW JERUSALEM. “You are as close to God as you want to be,” a well-known prophetic leader once said. But one day, heaven will come to earth. During the Millennium, a “kingdom of priests” will prepare people for His presence “on earth as it is in heaven” (Mt. 6:10).

In fact, Israel’s priests once served in an earthly temple which copied the temple in heaven. The Jews will rebuild that temple, as we see in Rev. 11:1-2. And when Jesus returns to earth, He will fill that temple with His glory.
One priesthood will serve unbelievers who will go as far as the altar. But other priests will bring believers as close as they can endure the overwhelming glory of the Lord. Those believers who were raptured will have glorified bodies in which they can draw closer than others.
How close can we get?
We already have access by the Spirit to be seated with Christ “in the heavenly places” (Eph. 2:6). But our glorified bodies will have different positions in His glory. We will have plenty of freedom of movement. But in relation to His throne, one will sit on His right, one on His left, the 24 elders will surround Him, and others will have various places (Mk. 10:37; Jn. 14:2; Rev. 4:4-6).
Our closeness to Him now will determine our closeness to Him forever. He is preparing us “as a bride adorned for her husband” (Rev. 21:2). The church, a “holy priesthood” now, will serve in the Millennium as more of a priesthood than ever before.
Until then, we can seek to prepare our churches and our lives for His glory to come and remain. We want not only to experience His glory, but to grow up in His glory. And to keep going from glory to glory, until all the glory of the New Jerusalem in heaven comes down (2 Cor. 3:18; Rev. 21:1-2).
