MEXICO LEADS WORLD for late 2023 to 2025 in verified assaults & abductions vs Christians. Persecution monitor Global Christian Relief has documented 376 such incidents. Moreover, disappearances have increased in Mexico by 200+% during the past decade. This statistic comes from a report by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, or IACHR. Frequently, says the IACHR, state actors commit such crimes or allow organized criminal groups to do so.
Drug cartels target pastors and Christian community workers who reach youth with anti-drug messages. Anyone who converts from local beliefs to Christianity face beatings, fines, prison, or displacement. Especially in Guerrero State, organized criminal groups have gained control over local communities.
The case of the missing missionary
For two months, the well-known missionary, Guevara Arcos, 79, has gone missing in Guevara State. He had traveled to the town of Ocotito to preach and circulate Bibles. His host who went looking for him said neighbors told him that armed men forced him into a vehicle.
Later an organized criminal group claimed they held him to verify his identity, though he had ID cards. Then several days later the same group claimed to have released him in the town of Amojileca. But local Christians who sought him there could not find him.
Despite widespread media coverage, no confirmed reports about his location or condition have emerged. When such things happen to well-known missionaries, a chilling effect goes through the whole church. Pray that God will instead embolden the whole church to seek and save the missing as well as the lost.
PRAY WITH US about Mexico leads world, that God will:
- Release the Holy Spirit who searches all things, even the deep things of God. Especially to guide family and friends safely to those missing persons still alive. And free the missing from their captors with a testimony like Peter’s after the angel freed him from prison.
- Shield pastors, youth workers and youth from criminal gangs which are trying to steal them away. Untangle those trapped in human and sex trafficking from all the ways the enemy has bound them. And give their rescuers a testimony that they pursued, overtook and rescued all.
- Disarm and disable the drug cartels. As they crumble, show their members the way of salvation. And free missionaries like Guevara Arcos, that they may boldly and powerfully seek and save more.
- For Haiti, rescue Cite Soleil in Port-au-Prince from increased gang attacks. Guide the hundreds of displaced people to find homes until they can return. And let the invading gangs find no rest from Your pursuit of them until they find rest in You.
