COLOMBIAN VOTERS CHOOSE PEACE. When voters go to the polls on May 31, they can choose a “total peace” plan or a war against terrorists. But since April 25, one drug terrorist group known as FARC-EMC, led by Ivan Morisco, has waged war. It has staged up to 26 attacks with drones and explosives in Micay Canyon, where it controls coca fields. And one explosion killed 21 and injured 35 on a bus traveling on the Pan-American Highway in southwest Colombia.
What strategy does the government—led by former M-19 guerilla leader Gustavo Petro—have against it? A “total peace” strategy of negotiation. Including talks with the same FARC-EMC beginning in late 2023. But Mordisco’s faction left the talks in April 2024. Now his faction has triggered a wave of violence to “establish its credibility” with the new government. Apparently Mordisco seeks credibility by showing not the good he can do but the damage he can do.
See below how to pray about this
Petro can’t run for president again. So his VP Ivan Cepeda is running with the same Historic Pact party label and the same “total peace” plan. His conservative rivals want the military to show its own credibility with military pressure on FARC-EMC. And then to negotiate from a position of strength.
Last year the conservative presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay died of gunshots from a 14-year- old. While being arrested, the boy assassin shouted, “I’m sorry, I did it for the money, for my family.” Investigators are still trying to find the masterminds. Now Uribe’s father is running in his place.
PRAY WITH US about Colombia voters choose peace, that God will:
- Raise up a move of the Holy Spirit to convict the drug terrorists of sin, disarm them, and show them His way out. Then for those who refuse to repent, expose them and bring them to public justice. And cause other would-be terrorists to know the fear of God and the beginning of wisdom.
- Show Colombia how to cooperate with God’s work of exposing terrorists and bringing them to justice. Especially show favor to candidates who have God’s plan and God’s heart to deliver Colombia from these evils. And to turn the fields of coca leaves into truly fruitful fields again.
- For Haiti, thank God for more funding for the new UN-backed international force than it asked for. Show them God’s plan for breaking up the gangs. Show Haitians God’s plan for building up the nation. And put in them the resolve to keep seeking and finding God’s way to His kind of prosperity. So that they will never want to go the devil’s way again.
