AI SPIRITUAL LEADER. Only 12% of pastors feel confident about giving their congregations guidance on using AI. Only 16% use AI personally themselves, according to the same Barna poll. But a whopping 44% of practicing Christians use AI “often” or “very often”—13% more than all adults.
Even more troubling, nearly half of practicing Christians say they would trust AI with their spiritual growth. In fact, one-third of them say that AI’s spiritual advice is just a good as a pastor’s. How, when AI cannot receive the Holy Spirit, but only process impersonal data points? Is the blind leading those with sight? Is the unspiritual leading those born of the Spirit? AI’s most sophisticated logic cannot match the Holy Spirit, who searches all things, even the deep things of God.

Satan masquerades himself as an angel of light by imitation. By engineered imitation too, the non-human masquerades as human with a heart, mind and spirit. But can a wolf lurk behind human clothing? Yes—if evil spirits can inhabit idols, they can inhabit AI models if we make idols of them.
If Barna is correct, almost half of Christian would trust their spiritual growth to AI models. AI has superintelligence which seems supernatural. It solves at lightning speeds many logical problems that human minds would take hours to solve.
But it cannot understand things of the Spirit, “for they are spiritually discerned” (1 Cor. 2:14). Paul asks in Galatians 3:3, “Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort?” Replace “human effort” with “impersonal data,” and it will sound even more foolish.
Worse, the false prophet will one day make something like an AI model into “the image of the beast.” And make it speak and even give breath or “spirit” (pneuma) to it. “And it was given to him to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast would even speak” (Rev. 13:15).
We had better hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches now. The spirit of prophecy is the testimony of Jesus Christ (Rev. 2:7-3:22; 19:10). But the “spirit” of AI will ultimately become the testimony of the Antichrist.
PRAY WITH US about AI spiritual leader:
Father God, we exalt You as Creator and Judge of our spirit. For You breathed Your Spirit into us when You created Adam. But his spirit died when he sinned. And since then we have lived as spiritually dead to You until You make us alive by faith in You. Thank You that Christ lived with us, died for us, and left the Holy Spirit with us to make us alive to You.
So it grieves us to hear that many who claim to know You and have Your Spirit follow AI as spiritual guide. We’ve become so used to Christian communications through media as to lose touch with Your Person. An artificial imposter who seems to speak and sound like You is taking Your place. For You said we would have many false prophets and false Christs before the Antichrist comes. So save us from this deluding influence which deceives those who do not love Your truth. Let us experience You in Person—the only way, the only truth, the only life that leads to the Father. Unmask the AI deception and make it serve Your purposes alone. And keep pouring out Your Holy Spirit in ways that those who know You can’t mistake. In Jesus’ name, amen.
