CHRISTIANIZATION VS. CHRISTIAN NATION. Back in 2014, the UK PM said the UK was a Christian nation. PM David Cameron added that Christians should become more evangelical—that is, more Bible-believing. At that time, detractors criticized him for not exalting the UK’s multiculturalism—now called “diversity.”
But cultural diversity has led to cultural clashes between Pakistani Muslims and nativists. Long-suppressed reports of 1000s of rapes of British girls by Pakistani gangs rocked Britain. Clashes between Muslim Hamas supporters and Israeli supporters displayed a spike in antisemitism. And clashes between Muslim immigrants and traditionalists ended up with London turning mostly Muslim. Now the two most influential cities in the West—New York and London—have devout Muslim mayors.
Most Muslims identify strongly with Muslim heritage. Still, no one can deny that the UK has a mostly Christian heritage. Now Christians increasingly identify with that heritage and seek to claim Britain back as a Christian nation.
See below how to pray about this
After all, Britain was shaped by the likes of Bede, Anselm, More, Wycliffe, the Wesleys and Wilberforce. And 46.5% still identify themselves as Christian. But the 6% who identify as Muslim and the 37.8 who identify as non-religious have the louder voices.
Reform MP Danny Kruger says, “I would love us to be a more confidently Christian country that acknowledges its Christian heritage. A society aligned more closely with the teachings of Jesus would be a happier one.”
But when asked if he aimed to “Christianize” the UK, he said that term “raises unhelpful questions.” It implies external changes rather than changes of heart which produce true Christians. Only a massive turning of hearts to the true God could make Britain a truly Christian nation. Not only founded on Christian principles but putting them into practice.
Even then, freedom of religion would allow other religions to co-exist there. We cannot let any erroneous form of Christian nationalism deny that. Freedom of religion will remain essential for people to choose Christ by faith and not by force. His Great Commission to disciple nations thrives when disciples freely receive and freely give (Mt. 10:8). Thus a Christian nation is a nation which honors and abides by the Christian heritage which shaped it
PRAY WITH US about Christianization vs. Christian Nation:
Father God, we thank You for Your Son Jesus, the Savior of the World. The enemy Satan came only to steal, kill and destroy. But Jesus’ name has power to heal, save and deliver from evil. We thank You for heroes of the faith like Wigglesworth who healed multitudes. Like John Wesley who preached an uncompromising gospel of salvation. And like Wilberforce who delivered captives from the evil of slavery in the British empire.
Yet many in the UK have forgotten this glorious heritage and fail to honor their fathers in the faith. The British heritage has produced a thriving nation with a stable government which attracts many immigrants. But instead of introducing immigrants to best of their heritage, leaders allow their worst elements to steal, rape, kill and destroy. So begin a new season of revelation of the true Christ, the true faith, and the only true Lord and Savior. And complete the good work You began in that nation. In Jesus’ name, amen.
