WONDERS, WORSHIP, WORD. Countless Christians feel misled by prophecies that the pro-Christian Trump would win a second term. Yet that still may happen. But many have become resigned to an increasingly anti-Christian government and culture.
They expect that persecution will increase until the Great Tribulation and the Antichrist’s reign. But others believe we will have one last great worldwide revival before the end comes.

What does the Bible say? Certainly, due to “the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.” Many will “betray and hate one another” (Mt. 24:10-12). And a great apostasy will occur as the Antichrist arises (2 Thess. 2:1-4).
But Jesus said the end will not come until the gospel is preached “as a testimony to all nations” (Mt. 24:14). And Paul said “the fullness of the Gentiles” must come in before Israel experiences salvation (Rom 11:25). In the meantime, the church will grow in maturity and unity (Eph. 4:13).
So we can expect at least one more grace period for the church to grow and reap the final harvest. Revival can create a grace period. The more revival spreads, the more favour the church has in the surrounding culture.
The three main features of any great revival are wonders, worship and word. We saw that at Pentecost. People witnessed the wonder of the disciples speaking in the languages of 15 different regions. They were worshiping as they declared “the mighty works of God” (Acts 2:5-12).
And Peter told them to “give heed to my words” (verse 14). He sums up his word in verse 38. “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
God gives gifts to unite us, not divide us
The Holy Spirit also gives different spiritual gifts to empower each member of the body of Christ. These gifts include words of wisdom and knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, distinguishing of spirits, tongues, and interpretation of tongues (1 Cor. 12:7-11).
During revival, immature people often become divided over these different gifts. Because of these divisions, revivals throughout history have often ended prematurely.
But the end-time revivals must end in unity and maturity. So we will need the 5-fold ministry bring us “to the unity of the faith…to a mature man” (Eph. 4:13).
Since the 1950s, we have seen each of the 5-fold ministries develop rapidly in turn, decade after decade. First, the evangelistic ministry gained prominence, then the pastoral ministry, then the teaching ministry. Since the 1980s, the lesser-known prophetic and apostolic ministries have struggled to become integrated with those three better-known ministries.
In the next two videos, we will go into more detail about how the dynamics of these five ministries—and the revivals that have accompanied them—have affected the whole church, and my own life, since the 1980s. We will also look at what we need to do to bring these five ministries into unity. Only then can they bring the church into unity, so that all of us can make the most of the great harvests to come.
