Third Most Intense Hurricane Ever Hits Haiti, Jamaica, Cuba

third most intense hurricane ever:

THIRD MOST INTENSE HURRICANE EVER. Whole towns broke down before the force of 185 mph winds from the Category 5 Hurricane Melissa. About 90% of the buildings in Black River, Jamaica had their roofs torn off. Trees and power lines bowed down too, and hillsides turned into landslides. Under all the debris, blocked roads prevented aid from reaching the most battered areas. Thus five days after Melissa hit ground zero in Jamaica, many towns still lacked clean water and power.

Accuweather called it the third most intense hurricane that has ever been recorded in the Caribbean. And the third slowest-moving, increasing its deadly impact. Currently, the death tolls have climbed to 19 in Jamaica and 31 in Haiti. As yet Cuba has an untold number because much flooding remains.

See below for how to pray about this

Despite barriers, evangelical organizations Samaritan’s Purse and World Relief began to bring good news. Specifically in the form of 38,000 pounds of airlifts supplies to Jamaica from Samaritan’s Purse. Including water purification systems, shelter materials, and solar lights for blacked-out areas. World Relief is also providing survival kits, cash assistance and trauma ministry for 100’s of households.

They and other relief organizations continue to match resources to needs as they discover more damage. Namely, Operation Blessing, CityServe, Barnabas Aid & Send Relief have boots on the ground relaying aid. Nothing can keep the body of Christ from reaching where Christ is needed most.

PRAY WITH US about third most intense hurricane: Father God, we declare Your mercies new every morning. So we appeal to Your mercy over Haiti, already plagued by gang rule. Over Jamaica, plagued by a high murder rate. And over Cuba, plagued by a repressive Communist government. With so many lives deeply shaken by this storm, show them Your narrow way to physical and spiritual recovery.

Thank You for the many Christian organizations who are filling in the gaps between life and death. For providing them with abundant resources so the victims can find abundant life in You. Show them that with You all things are possible. Not only for recovery, but for deliverance from their social plagues and for reformation of their nations. Let this catastrophe end in victory for all who find hope in You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
