Gang-Politician Collusion Prolongs Misery in Haiti

GANG-POLITICIAN COLLUSION. Now 2.7 million people in Haiti live under gang rule, mostly in the capital Port-au-Prince. Within the city, two out of every three children need humanitarian aid. And 1.64 people face emergency levels of severe food shortage.

Also, cholera is spreading again through this very vulnerable population. Doctors Without Borders has a hospital in Port-au-Prince. But a vigilante group along with police officers stopped one of their ambulances and diverted it to a public hospital. There, they slashed the tires, forced the staff out with tear gas, made death threats, then let them go.

In response to this crisis, the US has sent $33 million in aid, and the EU has sent $21 million. But the aid rarely reaches those in need. Armed gangs surround the capital, effectively blockading it and confiscating physical aid. Corrupt government officials swallow up most of the financial aid.

Politicians of different stripes are providing weapons to certain gangs & shield them from the authorities. In return, the gangs ensure the politicians get the votes they need from the areas they dominate. But that makes the politicians weaker and the gangs stronger.

No wonder some of the gang leaders threaten to remove politicians altogether. And to make Haiti a gang-led state. That could overwhelm any further interventions from international police and powers. What Haiti needs now is overwhelming divine intervention. Only God can arise in a way that makes these enemies of Haiti scatter.
