Censorship Regime Blocked by Mexico’s United Churches

CENSORSHIP REGIME BLOCKED. Churches may argue over what to preach, but not their right to preach it. The ruling Morena Party wanted to subject churches to new online rules preventing “hate speech.” But too often woke ideologues label speech that they themselves hate as hate speech.

So evangelical leaders, the Mexican Bishop’s Conference and others joined in their criticism of the bill. According to Christian Post, they united to say, “No government can be an arbiter of faith.” The bill’s opponents used the very online platforms that would be restricted to voice their dissent. For example, one popular post read “telling the truth and exposing sin is not a message of hate.”

Constitutional law expert Carlos Castellanos Morales said the law created a “censorship regime.” So members of eight religious associations met with the Federal Deputy Arturo Ávila Anaya. He wanted to use the new Agency for Digital Transformation and Telecommunications to regulate them. But the agency sounded too much like secular pope in digital form.

Pastor Gilberto Rocha Margain of the Calacoaya Christian Center celebrated the decision to revoke the bill. “That initiative…seemed so feared by everyone. The deputy has kindly offered to withdraw it and collaborate with us in search of religious freedom.”

Observers agreed that the halt to the initiative stopped a political crisis. Because a church ruled by a secular state and not by Christ cannot claim to be His body. Instead, it becomes a body politic and a work of the flesh—which “sets its desire against the Spirit… But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law” (Gal. 5:17-18).

PRAY WITH US about censorship regime blocked, that God will:

  1. Keep demolishing every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of Christ. Show that like God we must hate sin but love the sinners. And help us make the most of freedoms to show Christ has set us free from any yoke of slavery.
  2. Expose the antichrist spirit behind efforts to subject the church to the state. Show that much of the hate comes from people who hate our speech, and not from the speech itself. And help us speak the truth in love so that God’s love will win hearts away from sin.
  3. Show that any church ruled by a secular state is a work of flesh that cannot claim to be the body of Christ. For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit. But if the Spirit leads you, you are not under law.
