Cartels Dominate Mexico 70%—What’s Next for 30%

CARTELS DOMINATE MEXICO 70%. Even one of the lawmakers of the ruling party says cartels control most of Mexico. Evangelical Hugo Flores Cervantes, a party deputy, said “70 percent of Mexico is governed by drug cartels.” He told a Christian conference, “In the beginning, organized crime financed political campaigns. Later, they began appointing rulers. And now, they are the rulers.”

Christian Daily International quotes him depicting Mexican politics as an “inverted power pyramid.” It needs “a spiritual government” to reverse moral decay or else it won’t have “a civil government.”

Although President Claudia Sheinbaum has ordered crackdowns, several states remain “war zones.” So if cartels control 70% of Mexico, what will happen to the remaining 30%? Flores says the kingdom of darkness is spreading as the cartels spread. “Because our leaders are invoking deities they should not be invoking,” says Flores. We must pray for more Christians like Flores to stand up as lights against this darkness.

Or else it will spread not only to the rest of Mexico but to surrounding nations. Including the US, Guatemala, Belize and beyond. But thank God, US President Trump has targeted several of those cartels as terrorist organizations. Guatemala has declared some gangs as terrorist groups and passed anti-gang legislation.

On Oct. 8, Belize almost opened a door to drugs gangs when my own village voted on legalizing marijuana. Because if Caye Caulker did so, the drug dealers could sell marijuana openly from storefronts. And at the same time they could do a back-door business with hard drugs. Cartels would see that and move in to control the drug business like they did so in Mexican politics.

But churches and law-abiding citizens got together with a campaign to warn the voters of such dangers. And the result? A resounding NO: 79% against, 20% for. Pray for God to release more anti-drug campaigns in the surrounding nations and in Mexico itself. And raise up many more political leaders like Flores who hears what the Spirit is saying to the churches.

Expose the moral corruption behind the legal façade of politicians appointed by cartels. Give Christians discernment of the false gods that leaders invoke to empower this evil. And by prayer. evangelism, and public campaigns take ground back from those false gods.
Surround the most demon-inhabited and drug-oppressed areas with prayer. Spread testimonies of people getting free instead of getting addicted to drug habits. And bring waves of revival to spread the good news instead.
Empower the US war against terrorist cartels with spiritual guidance. Enforce Guatemala’s new anti-gang laws with the fear of the Lord and the fear of the law. And make Caye Caulker’s victory so effective that Belize never considers legalizing pot again.
