Americas See Authoritarianism Rise North to South

Americas See Authoritarianism RiseAMERICAS SEE AUTHORITARIANISM RISE NORTH TO SOUTH. Many leaders of nations in this part of the world say they will boycott the June Summit of the Americas. Why? Because the US won’t invite the authoritarian regimes of Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua.

Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) said only yesterday that he won’t attend if the US excludes those three nations. Caribbean foreign ministers meeting in Belize in March also threatened to boycott the summit. And Argentina appealed for the three nations’ inclusion.

At the same time, authoritarianism is rising in other countries in the Americas. Canada cracked down on truckers staging peaceful and lawful protests against Covid restrictions. Also, the US itself started a “Disinformation Board” to suppress objections to its radical woke policies.

Belize tried to push through government control of legalized marijuana without real consultations. Guatemala’s attorney general seeks another term despite prosecuting anti-corruption prosecutors.. El Salvador’s ruling party removed five Supreme Court judges and an anti-corruption attorney general.

Pray for a worldwide turnaround

Of course, Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela persist in imprisoning dissenters. And after Evo Morales made Bolivia a narco state, his party now rules with legal mechanisms that the OAS calls “instruments of repression.”

Despite notable exceptions, authoritarianism keeps rising in the Americas from north to south. Recently 23% of Latin Americans said they favored nation-changing coups.

Moreover, worldwide 57.5% of people expressed dissatisfaction with democracy. No wonder many countries in the Americas tolerate undemocratic rule. So we must pray for a turnaround before more tyrannical Antichrist tendencies become manifest.
