Government-Big Tech Crackdown on “Disinformation”

Government-Big Tech CrackdownGOVERNMENT-BIG TECH CRACKDOWN. A new Belize bill shows a fresh try at another kind of government censorship. It seeks to increase penalties for spreading of what it calls “disinformation.” Hon. Francis Fonseca cites as disinformation “possible cures or remedies for the Covid-19 virus, the origin of the disease”, etc. This would constitute a crime if “such expression creates a public detriment” and was done “intentionally.” If convicted, the person would face “a fine of $3,000 or imprisonment for a term of 6 months.”

Of course, the government could call any expression a “public detriment” if it differed from government policy. And the government could easily call it “intentional” too. This would have a chilling effect on our right to free speech.

Big Tech now censors Christians at least weekly

The US government is now collaborating with Facebook to censor what it calls disinformation. Press Secretary Jen Psaki said it is “flagging problematic posts for Facebook that spread disinformation.” At the same time, the US will “boost trusted content.”

Again, the government defines what it considers “problematic,” “disinformation,” or “trusted”. But the US goes further to inform Facebook about what content it wants to censor, and what content to boost. Doesn’t this sound like collusion against the free speech of the opposition?

Increasingly, Big Tech considers Christians as the opposition. Especially those who present a biblical view of concerning sex, abortion and assisted suicide. In effect, it is censoring the Bible.

The Napa Institute recently found that Big Tech censors Christians “at least once a week.” For example, Amazon deleted the book When Harry Became Sally because it challenged transgender orthodoxy. And Amazon handles as many as 80% of book sales. Talk about a chilling effect.

YouTube permanently banned a pro-life outlet, LifeSite News. They had 2000 videos and 300,000 subscribers. Facebook deplatformed the Susan B. Anthony List for revealing Joe Biden’s positions on abortions before the elections.  After public backlash, Facebook let the ads run again. But the effect on the voters remained.

Strategies against such censorship include contacting such companies directly or boycotting them. Or contacting pro-censorship candidates directly or voting against them. And praying that our votes are not censored.
