Millennial Temple Sacrifices -Why, after the Cross?

MILLENNIAL TEMPLE SACRIFICES. The Third Temple has emerged as an issue in the struggle to form a new coalition government in Israel. When current PM Benjamin Netanyahu attempted it, he offered a high position to Moshe Feiglin, the Zehut party chairman. Feiglin advocates building a Third Temple in Jerusalem.

Netanyahu’s main opponent Benny Gantz mocked at the deal. He alluded to Feiglin’s pro-marijuana legalization stance. “He will get us all high,” Gantz said. “We’ll wake up to a (Third) Temple.” Gantz has three more weeks to form his own coalition government.

Yet the Israel’s Temple Institute is working to make the Third Temple a reality. They are already planning to produce dozens of temple items such as meat forks and vessels for holding blood.

But why would they need blood sacrifices? Christ Himself has made the final sacrifice for sins that the animal sacrifices anticipated. “For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified” (Heb. 10:14).

Therefore, instead of sacrificing animals, believers take communion. “’This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.’ For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes” (1 Cor 11:25-26).

Note the phrase, “until He comes.” Because when Jesus comes, believers will no longer partake of Jesus’ body and blood in communion in remembrance of Him. Jesus’ body will be with us!

When He comes, Jesus will come to His temple. A rebuilt temple will stand during the end times when the two witnesses are testifying for 1260 days (Rev. 11:1-3). It will stand when the Antichrist “takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God” (2 Thess. 2:4). And it will stand when Christ returns.

The Lord will suddenly come to His temple

“And the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple… Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasing to the Lord as in the days of old and as in former years” (Mal 3:1,4).

Really? Our crucified and glorified Lord will be pleased by blood offerings? Yes, but not from believers. Unbelievers will make blood offerings because they remain under the Law, and are not covered by the blood of Christ.

Many unbelievers who never received the mark of the Antichrist will survive the Great Tribulation. Some of them will come to the Temple Mount to find out about their new King.

But like the Israelites at Mount Sinai, they will die if they approach Him without blood sacrifice (Ex. 19:20-21). For that reason Moses built an altar at Mount Sinai, made sacrifices and read aloud the words of the Law. When the people vowed to obey, he sprinkled the blood of the sacrifices on them. Then he took Aaron, Nadab, Abihu and seventy elders from the people up to Mount Sinai (Ex. 24:4-9).

“…and they saw the God of Israel; and under His feet there appeared to be a pavement of sapphire, as clear as the sky itself. Yet He did not stretch out His hand against the nobles of the sons of Israel” (Ex. 24:10-11).

In the same way, Jewish unbelievers who come to the temple will be able to offer sacrifice, receive ritual cleansing of sin, and so gain access to the temple. But only those who receive Jesus as Lord will be saved. Resurrected and glorified believers will serve as priests for them (Rev. 20:6), becoming as Jews to the Jews to lead them to Christ.
