The last of the seven trumpets announces the second coming of Christ. He comes to rapture believers and to reward each one with a new imperishable and immortal body (1 Cor. 15:51-53).
“Then the seventh angel sounded… And the nations were enraged, and Your wrath came, and the time came for the dead to be judged, and the time to reward Your bond-servants the prophets and the saints and those who fear Your name… ” (Rev. 11:15,18)
But Christ also comes with wrath on the nations belonging to the Antichrist. The 7th trumpet triggers the 7 bowls of wrath. Those bowls fall to earth on unbelievers while believers are being raptured to Christ in the skies.
The angels carrying the 7 bowls of wrath do not come from the devil. They come from the holy temple of God in heaven. We see that when the 7th trumpet (Rev. 11:15) triggers these 7 bowls, “the temple of God which is in heaven was opened” (Rev. 11:19). After an interlude of explanatory visions (Rev. 12-14), the description of the open temple continues:
“After these things I looked, and the temple of the tabernacle of testimony in heaven was opened, and the seven angels who had the seven plagues came out of the temple, clothed in linen, clean and bright, and girded around their chests with golden sashes. Then one of the four living creatures gave to the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the wrath of God, who lives forever and ever…” (Rev. 15:5-8)
Plagues on the Antichrist’s kingdom
The plagues kill every living thing in the sea. They also turn all the rivers and springs into blood. This amounts to poetic justice: “for they poured out the blood of saints and prophets, and You have given them blood to drink. They deserve it” (Rev. 16:5).
Moreover, the plagues bring malignant sores on the Antichrist’s subjects, scorching heat from the sun, and then darkness over the Antichrist’s entire kingdom. Yet they still refused to repent. Instead, “they blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and sores; and they did not repent of their deeds” (Rev. 16:11).
The 6th bowl dries up the River Euphrates. That opens the way for “the kings of the whole world, to gather them together for the war of the great day of God, the Almighty… And they gathered them together to the place which in Hebrew is called Har-Magedon [Armageddon].” (Rev. 16:14,16)
Armageddon fails
When Jesus returns to earth, He will pass unhindered from Egypt to the Holy Land, instantly vanquishing the enemies of His chosen people along the way (Joel 3:18-20). Finally, He will confront all the forces from Armageddon who have arrayed against Him.
“These will wage war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, because He is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those who are with Him are the called and chosen and faithful” (Rev. 17:13).
The Antichrist presents no match for Christ:
“And the beast was seized, and with him the false prophet who performed the signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image; these two were thrown alive into the lake of fire which burns with brimstone. And the rest were killed with the sword which came from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse, and all the birds were filled with their flesh.” (Rev. 19:20-21)
All who opposed Christ will fall. Completely victorious, He will return with us to Jerusalem. Christ will rule the earth with us from there for 1000 years…
